Who We Are - Our History

The origins of the Practice can be traced back to a Practice started by W Hepburn who, having had several addresses in Aberdeen, settled at a site in Ship Row.  D H Armstrong bought the Practice in 1943 when it was concerned mostly with the care of horses working at nearby Aberdeen Harbour. There was a forge employing 3 or 4 farriers downstairs with a consulting room and office upstairs.

Mr K C Gammack joined the Practice in 1945, having served in the Forces during the war and the Practice became Armstrong & Gammack.

In 1952 the Practice relocated from Ship Row to 85 Bon Accord Street, and then in 1970 to 56 Bon Accord Street - a site which we still occupy.

In the mid-1980s the Practice became Ardene House Veterinary Practice to comply with RCVS regulations on practice names. A branch surgery at Bridge of Don was opened as this part of the city expanded.

The Practice continued to grow and in 1997 built a new Veterinary Hospital at Kingswells to be home to its farm and equine vets as well as allowing expansion of the small animal facilities. It is the only RCVS accredited Small Animal Veterinary Hospital in the North East of Scotland.

From being a 1 man practice, there are now 16 vets, 27 nurses & support staff working at the hospital, the city centre branch at Bon Accord Street and the Bridge of Don surgery.

Originally largely an equine practice dealing with working horses we have grown in to a practice which is concerned with the wellbeing of leisure horses, farm animals and all sorts of small animals, birds & reptiles.
