Janina qualified as a veterinarian in 2003 from the University of Munich in Germany. Following graduation, she moved to South Africa where she combined working in a large equine clinic near Johannesburg with research work for her German PhD equivalent degree, which she graduated in 2008 with honours and was awarded the title Dr. med. vet.
Janina has presented at equine veterinary conferences in the UK and internationally. She completed postgraduate courses in Equine Internal Medicine, Equine Ophthalmology and Equine Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and graduated with BVSc (Hons) in 2010. During her time in South Africa Janina was involved with the National Horse Racing Authority of South Africa and worked as a race course veterinarian.
After working for Ardene House Veterinary Practice as a locum during 2010, she joined us on a permanent basis in February 2011. Since 2012 Janina is also an FEI official and treatment veterinarian for eventing and vaulting. In 2015 Janina became an RCVS accredited Advanced Practitioner in Equine Internal Medicine and was re-accredited in 2020 and 2025. Janina is an IVC regional coach, an RCVS VetGDP advisor and leads our regular journal clubs internally. Recently she provided Equine Ophthalmology CPD through the BEVA Trust at the American Fondouk in Fez, Morrocco.
Janina underwent additional veterinary training in photodynamic laser therapy and surgery since 2019 and has since developed this field at Ardene.
Janina enjoys all aspects of equine internal medicine, oncology, ophthalmology but also particularly gastroscopies, ultrasonography, laser therapy and surgery.
